New Chicks

Post by MariusStegmann » Wed Jan 17, 2018 1:50 pm

Three cherryfinches fledged last week. I looked in my nests and found that I have 3 diamond firetails chicks. Quite a nice surprise because I thought the eggs were duds. I also see that my 6 months old YHWBYB hen has a single chick with a RHPBYB young male. I am quite interested to see if they will raise a single chick. It looks like it could be a silver. I will have a look at the mouth markings tomorrow.
Diamond firetail chicks with their distinctive white mouths. Looks like white lipstick.

Hope it is a silver. It could be because both parents are possibles.

Thx, I only hope they make it to being self sufficient.
