DANGEROUS nesting material materials

Post by Fraza » Sat Apr 07, 2018 5:02 pm

Just like to advise everyone to be careful with nesting materials don’t use strings or types of wool as it can get tangled in the chicks and the parents I could have easily lost two of my birds last week my favourite bird ended up breaking his toe and the chick now has a dead leg so he’s going out have a struggled life now but it could have been much worse if I would have had more chicks and the three foster parents were in there so I’d just like to say use safe stuff like hay, tissue and things like this

 sorry for bringing a negative post but sometimes oi think it will be okay but it really won’t and you could have used it for ages and it’s not happened yet but oneday it will
FINCHES I HAVE
Bengalese

PETS IVE HAD

I use pieces of fluff which I try to be careful with when using it for nest material but I should probably stop using it then. Thanks for the warning!

I don't know why they sell some of that stuff for nests. It looks like it could get tangled in their toes. Bad enough to worry about a hair or something getting wrapped around their foot. Thank you for the warning Fraza. A lot of places sell nesting material like that.

It will be for the money, the places that make that nest material probably don’t even care about the actual birds that will be using it!

Ok. Thanks. That will make life so much easier when it comes to breeding materials.

Yeah and I also use soft pieces of hay and then my finches gather up leaves and sticks and all sorts of odd things like Pom poms etc.

Yeah. I’m glad I’ve never bought nest material! I make my own nest material. So the fluff goes on the bottom or around the edges as cushioning and there more material goes on top. And yeah shredded up tissue or toilet paper is a good nest material.

Flight Feathers Ano I removed all of it from the aviary because I got the new hay and they must have just found this piece from somewhere

I originally started to move it because it was getting stuck in the birds rings
