Are quails roght for me

Post by Fraza » Sun Apr 15, 2018 4:48 am

So I’m thinking of getting quail Chinese as I’ve been told they are good with finches first off will they definetly not attack my birds because these are more important than the quail ?

Are they as easy to look after ?

And what’s their general things they do ?

Thanks

They just peck around on the ground and (obviously) run away from you if you’re anywhere near them.. They like having sand baths (or seed baths). Mine have never hurt my birds even when the zebra finches go and sit right amongst their nest of eggs! And a breeder I know has had one of her baby zebs get raised by a chinese quail! I’ve never had a problem with any of my 7 Chinese quail hurting my finches. I have had a little aggression when introducing new Chinese quail to already paired off Chinese quail but after slowly introducing them they ended up becoming a big happy family.

They are very easy to look after. All they need is food and water and somewhere sheltered for them to sleep at night or to get out of the rain (if your aviary gets wet) They also like to have a little bit of undergrowth or little places where they can hide. Tunnels are good too.

Yes they do flap straight up when they get scared and sometimes hit their heads on the aviary roof. :D. Only they do sometimes get quite bad cuts.

Only negative I've heard is that they will attack any chicks that hit the floor. Of course if it's not a breeding aviary then you wouldn't have anything to worry about.
good luck

debbie276 well Yh it’s a breeding aviary of many species so no I don’t want to risk it that’s why I’m asking for advice I might leave it until I extend my aviary on the outside I’m only extending the inside double the size in few weeks then few months when I do the outside I might get some

Thanks for ur help

The quail walk around the baby finches too but would never attack them.
