Post by Fraza » Thu Apr 19, 2018 12:30 pm

So I know people always question if there society is a male or female and sometime because the girl turns her head whilst tweeting they think it’s a male singing hit here is a video of what a real male looks like during his song and dance

And yes he did manage to get a females attention and bred with the chocolate self

That’s so cute. Very helpful to see what they look like while singing.

Yeah definitely! Im actually going away this weekend so I contacted a breeder in the area regarding bengalese finches. (Im a member of the NZFBA so I have breeders contacts, sadly I’m the only regestiered member in my area! ) anyway I contacted her and she does breed them and does have young ones but she can’t sex them yet and didn’t think she’d be able to make up an unrelated pair by the weekend :( But she did give me the email of the secretary of the bird club there, so I emailed him and he sent out the email to the whole bird club there. He also gave me two emails I can try, including the email of the main bengalese finch breeder there. No replies yet but I have fingers crossed that I can find some bengalese. The first breeder I emailed also said some of her other bengalese may still be floating around in pet shops if I wanted to do it that way if it doesn’t work out with getting them from breeders.

Fraza

It's interesting; my society Laser usually doesn't fluff up or move much when he sings. He'll do the courtship dance when a bird he's interested in is near, but otherwise he's pretty still:

On the other hand, Tacocat fluffs up and dances more, and so do his sons, but to a lesser degree.

I have to wonder if the posturing is genetic or learned, perhaps being related to dominance. Tacocat seems to be the more dominant bird, and Laser the least, so maybe that could explain it.

Good news! A breeder has replied and they think they should have a pair for me!! They have pied whites and fawns.

Fraza

Which bird? Laser's a chocolate self, and Tacocat's a grey chocolate self.

He looks similar to Coco, minus the cheek flecking.
