I have had starfinches and gouldians that started laying eggs the day their chicks fledges, but my diamond firetails beat that. Today diamond firetails fledged and the parents have been incubating eggs in a different nest for about 5 days. Now I know why the previous 3 batches of chicks died. The parents started a new nest too quickly.

Hmm, that's odd. If I can remember correctly, my gouldian once started laying a second clutch around a week before her chick was supposed to fledge. They were in the same nest, but it was still unexpected.
