Parrot finches fledged

Post by MariusStegmann » Mon Dec 10, 2018 9:46 am

A pied parrotfinch cock that I got about 2 months ago just fledged 2 chicks. The one looks like a definite pied. The father must be split for seagreen because both chicks also look like seagreen.

Thx Elana. I see that I was wrong about them being seagreen. They both have red tails as opposed to the orange tails of the seagreen.

At least your guys are breeding. They're beautiful babies by the way.

My 2 pairs of Forbes Parrot Finches have been together for over a year and nothing so far. I have the 2 pairs housed together, maybe that's the problem...

Thank you.... now if they would only do me the favour of breeding, and presenting me with some babies.

Yes Elana they are beauties. Here in South Africa, we call them tri-coloured parrotfinches. We have only 3 species of parrotfinches available locally. One of my friends breed them in cabinets of about 2 meters long. He sells them for R3500 a pair. They are far too pricey for me.

Elana, are you sure they are a pair? Both birds look very colourful to me. The hen is a bit duller in colour than the cock. Like this one.

lovezebs I think you have 2 cocks. I am posting a picture of my friend's chicks. I have circled the hens with a red marker and the cocks with blue. The hens on the left are completely coloured up and a a light blue, not the bright blue of the cocks.

Definitely 2 pairs....2 males, 2 females. Yes, the girls are more pale, just not showing it as much in the pictures.
Just too busy being silly flitting around, rather than settling down. Going to seperate them into two separate flights today.

Good. The people that I know, breed them alone in an aviary or a large cabinet.

It's going to be 'fun' trying to catch them. They're extremely flighty, nervous little guys, and boy are they fast #-o .
