Led Lighting
I have recently heard that led light bulbs stop the production of melatonin in humans, and will interfere with sleep if exposed to it during the time when you would have the lights on. I wonder if this could have any adverse effect on birds. Anyone using this type of lighting might consider this before using it.

Re: Led Lighting
wildbird, is it the LED bulb, or the color of the light from LED bulbs? Do you have any information to back up the melatonin issue?
By the way, LED bulbs for household use produce light in different colors ranges--bluish light, soft white etc.

Re: Led Lighting
I believe it is the light the bulb produces, not the bulb itself. I heard this from a medical professional, and no, I don't have anything else on it. Just something to consider before using them for your birds.

wildbird
I've been using LED's for about a year now, and I love them. They really bring out the colors of the birds, they don't cost anything to run, and they have a very long life. My birds have never been healthier or more active. I am a huge fan of these lights.

Re: Led Lighting
The issue was sleeping at night. Do your birds sleep well at night?
