I mentioned this on another post, but just in case you missed it....

If you ever get a chance to come to Atlanta, you must go over to Emory hospital if for no other reason but to see their aviary. It is amazing. It is worth the parking fee for sure.

We had the chance to go there on yesterday and I spent an hour at the window. They had it all decorated for Christmas. It is huge glass windows with all kinds of beautiful trees inside. I am still trying to figure out how they keep it so clean. The floor is tile and they have no paper down. There was a woman in there mopping while we were there. At the window they have a "birdie buffet" and the finches are not afraid of people at the window. I am sure they are used to this every day.
I was trying to figure out how they kept all the nest in there from having so many eggs until I realized it was an all male aviary.

It had gouldians, shaftails (both colors) courdon blues, owls, strawberries,
goldbreast, parrot finches, small doves, canaries, zebras, society, stars,
etc.... I think it had all finches I have ever seen.

The one finch that really got my attention was a beautiful pied sea green parrot finch. I have never seen one like that before. It almost looked polka dotted. It was so beautiful. I thought about sneaking in there and stealing it.

I got some great ideas for my aviary while there. They had made a really long swing out of a piece of wood and suspended it from the ceiling. It wasn't circular like mine, and alot of birds could perch on it at a time. I plan on fixing that up this weekend.

I am not a big fan of canary birds, but there was an another one there.
I looked on the chart and I believe it was called a "fancy gloster".

It had the most adorable little pom pom on it's head. Like a crest of some kind. Too cute!

So.... if you come to Atlanta, be sure and stop by Emory hospital. They have a great place to eat there also. It is nice to go to a hospital when it isn't for a bad reason.

Happy New Year Everyone!

Sounds like an "Alice In Wonderland" type of aviary - perfect. Perhaps you can get pics one day. Sounds very colourful. Must sound nice hearing all the songs too.

Yes, the singing was beautiful with all thsoe males. They had speakers coming out into the waiting area so you could hear the birds before you ever saw them.
