Very nice nest boxes there Mick....I like the idea of the privacy barrier. You and my Hubby would get along just fine...he loves to come up with his own ideas like that.

So you mind if I steal your plan for the nestboxes

Hubby build a couple but without privacy porches, I will wait to use this model the next time around. For the moment both pairs of gouldians are building already.

Great nestboxs AND carrycage. I like the rubber to block around the wrist!
Care to share details of the type of wood?

Are you going to put a floor in the "privacy porch" area? I have seen this design before but always with the floor in for the privacy porch. Pre stuff the are with nesting material and then when they go to nest in the main box, if they toss, they end up in the privacy porch. This will typically save the baby from a long drop and the parents usually just keep feeding.
Goulds, Owls, Gold Breasts, Stars, Zebras, Societies
An obscene number of chicks and eggs
And an incredibly rare St. Goldena Breast finch
Anyone want some finches???

I really love that carrying box. Great idea to keep birds from escaping.

Liz, the timber I used was plywood 10mm thick. have found it to be more durable than anything else. all I do is give the boxes a coat of linseed oil once a year, makes cleaning inside & out easier.
Finch Fry, I dont plan to put a floor under the privacy porch kind of like the idea that any crap falls to the ground. it's unlikely that any young will fall out as the entrance hole is 100mm (4") above the floor of the nest.

The missing floor might be a better design :/
I've been told with the floor on the porch the birds will sometimes just build a nest in the porch rather than go into the nest box itself!
That's why I build my porch "into" the box itself as more of a foyer than a porch

Is there any perch inside the Carry Box or a place to put food/water? Just curious.

there is no perch in the carry cage.
food & water is made avaiable to the birds when I stop travelling, I put a small container of each in through the main door. take it out again just before starting to travel.
the birds are in it at most for 4 - 5 hours and depending upon the species of finch the maximum I will put into a carry cage is 6 smaller birds for examle cordons, st helenas or gold breasts, for the rest the maximum is 4 birds per cage.

I'm not very handy with stuff like this but want to give it a try. What do you use to attach the pieces of plywood to each other? Glue? Tiny nails?

Looks like screws ... I would use glue as well. Screwed and glued is my watch word! Or phrase, I guess, LOL!
I much prefer using screws (as opposed to nails or brads) in most applications. They hold much better in Real Wood or plywood.

Turn towards home, and go there. Many overs, over woods and fields, streams and hills, many overs. Just turn towards home. How else would one go there? Perhaps it was a dream, and you have awakened from it. May the earth rise up beneath you, with home in your heart, and your person waiting.
