Best fliers

Post by StevePax » Fri May 11, 2007 6:43 pm

With my new cage, we now have a couple of spice finches, and a few society finches. I still have a couple of black-headed nuns, and a blue-capped CB, and an OC Waxbill. That's 10 birds in that cage, all loving the large flying space.

I've noticed that the spice finches are by far the fastest and most agile fliers in there. They shoot from perch to perch, side to side very quickly. The society finches, on the other hand, flutter across the cage quite slowly in comparison. My black-headed nuns are pretty lazy - they like to just sit and watch the other birds all day, so they aren't very quick at flying.

Of the species you keep, which seem to be the best at flying?

My Societies have shorter tail feathers for their size compared to the other species. I believe this is why they aren't as agile in the air.

The Strawberries are probably the best flyers I have.

I think owls and rosey rumps are are the best fliers. Both are small and very fast, and the owls are like little helicopters - I swear they can reverse direction in midair!

I think my red-ear waxbills are the fastest!

My shaft tails are quick and agile considering there robust build and larger size. They are a lot faster then my male cordon bleu, but then again he is about 7-8 years old. The old boy isn't as fast as he used to be.
