We need to figure out a way to get some of those BCCB babies from MA to CA! I can explain how to ship, even mail a shipping box to MA to be used.

Re: ISO female blue cap cordon bleu
If we do ship out a few we would need information on how to do this. The problem with air shipping is that we are an hour from the airport and we don't have an air box so that means a trip just to get the box. Logistically problematic, a bit of an expense and the travellingSally wrote: a_gouldian isobea

Anyway, right now it's premature since they won't be 6 months old until Aug/Sept.

Sally - You are so generous! Thank you so much for offering!
a_gouldian - I realize all this talk is premature since your birdies are still kids. I know exactly how you feel. I, too, have never shipped any of my birds. Always was lucky enough that friends and acquaintances in the area wanted to buy my kids.

Re: ISO female blue cap cordon bleu
isobea@a_gouldian I realize it is a long way off still, but I have several wooden shipping boxes which are perfect for airline shipping. If you could use them one day, it would be easy for me to ship them to you to use. And I can talk you through the whole process.

Here's a thought, I am moving from new England to Idaho in a couple months and will be 12 hours from my parents in Los Angeles. I could bring them. Who is the breeder??

Re: ISO female blue cap cordon bleu
lovezebs - Good morning Elana, no, I have not found a female for my lonely guy yet. I just checked my files and found that on 10-10 it will be one year that I bought him! I haven't given up, though. When I was in Germany in July/August, I checked with my friends there: they only knew of two people in northern Germany who breed them (but had already sold all their young ones - not that it would have done me any good if they had had a female left). But they said there should be breeders in Holland and exporters in Holland and Belgium...
There are also two members of the local finch society who are looking for females. Maybe one day we will get lucky (if our males won't be too old by then).

Hi Iso,
That's too bad. This Thread came up again, and I'd wondered if you'd had any luck.
Sounds like you've had a busy Summer travelling
How are the feathered kids holding up? Anything new and exciting?

Re: ISO female blue cap cordon bleu
lovezebs - All is well but nothing super interesting going on here. Had a lovely time in Germany (spent 3 days in Berlin - what a city! but not enough time). My birdies are all hanging in there. The shaft tails keep laying eggs - nonstop - almost always infertile. Twice there were two fertile eggs in a clutch and they promptly abandoned them both times. My pair of lavenders is just kicking back and the European goldfinches are waiting for next spring.
There will be a bird mart/show in Ramona on November 4, so against all odds I am hoping to find a female blue cap there. Not much else on my wish list.

Glad you had a good time in Germany
. No matter how many years you're away, home is always home.
Are the Shaft Tails older? I guess that could be a reason for infertile eggs all the time.
My Lavenders (like yours) are just enjoying life, and not showing any interest in breeding or nesting
.
If you keep in touch with W.l. let him know that I broke down and got a pair (I hope) of the Black and Whites. They are gorgeous.
Enjoy the rest of the weekend
.
P.S.
Goodluck with the bird mart, and I hope you find your girl.

Re: ISO female blue cap cordon bleu
lovezebs - You know Elana, I've been thinking the same thing: my shaft tails (at least the male) might just be too old. But since shaft tails aren't rare around here, I am not heartbroken. Now if my lavenders, European goldfinches and one day - hopefully - my blue caps start raising babies, that would be great. I haven't had goldfinch babies in quite a few years.
That finch society meeting was a bust: there was not a single pair of birds on the raffle table that I would have wanted to add to my flock. BUT there is an actual bird mart and show coming up on Nov. 4 (put on by two local clubs) and I'm optimistic about that. Keeping my fingers crossed.
Have a great weekend,
Iso

Re: ISO female blue cap cordon bleu
Is there really nobody out there in southern CA who has an extra blue cap female? Nobody who knows somebody who knows somebody?
I really need help in my search and I'm not giving up hope yet.

Oh dear. You've been on this hunt for a year now! I checked the finch farm, and they only have the red cheeked.
Hoping you find a female soon

Re: ISO female blue cap cordon bleu
I know of a guy who might want to sell me his female. "Might" because he lost his male and is really looking for a new male. But he might sell me his female (thinking about it).
In the meantime I have a question: he says he's had her for 4 years. So my guess is she is at least 5 years old. Does anybody know if she is still fertile at this age? He is asking $90 for her (I paid $60 for my male last year).
Please help me make up my mind if I should pursue this.
