Whoa, I just read this one! This person obviously isn't on our forum, or they would realize that blue Gouldians aren't that rare any longer. I wonder if even the very first blue went for $500? :shock:

location: Mexico city

Here in mexico except for canaries its just a few people who breed finches, most of the current species we get are imported from Cuba, then there is no way to get a cordon b. , strawberries, cut throats , manikkans or even green singers, among others, but we do get the big deal with Gouldians.
in the bird market you can get a blue , albine, silver or any other color you can imagine for the same price of a classic gouldian= 60 dls. i recently got an extremely beautifull blue back, lila chest , red head cock for that price and he is from 2010.

Shaftails= 65.00dl
Javas= 27.00
Zebra= 9 dls even black cheeked
Societies= 7dls
star finch= 50.00
Fire tail= 70.00 (its not easy to find tho)

On the other hand yuo cand find a huge variety of wild finches for very low money.

House Finch = 5dlls
Painted bunting 10.00
Indigo bunting 10.00
or any other type of the bunting family, including, versicolor, leclancherii, rositae
Red cardinal= 50.00
i saw a variety of tanager and the vendor was asking 15dll for a pair of cocks.
and several birds of the carduelis family for 10.00dlls too.
6 Pairs of Gouldians
4 Pairs of Societies
2 Pairs of Shaftails
2 Pairs of Triclored Munnia
2 Pairs of Owl Finch
1 pair of House Finch
1 Pair of Red Faced Parrot Finch
2 Pairs of Star Finch
2 Pairs of Firetail Finch

Hello, I am from India.

I live in a town named "Indore". Indore comes in the central Indian state called "Madhya Pradesh" in our language.
Here two species of finches are available in my town's local pet store.

They have Zebras and Societies.

Both are priced just same.

Around 200/- Indian Rupees for a pair.

That means around 4~5 USD.

Went to my first fair, in Buffalo, NY today.
I came home with a pair of black cheek zebras(fawn female and lightback male 3-5 months old). I paid $40 for the pair, and she was also selling individually for $25 each.
Another breeder had younger BCs (beaks not fully changed yet) for $15 each, but they did not look as healthy.

We also saw:
Shafttails - $40 each (seriously considered them)
Owls - $180/pair (really wanted them, but they are just not in the budget right now)

There were other birds there, of course, but as it was my first fair (and wanting to get my new birds home and settled), I did not get prices on them all!

Well, I can add to the buffalo price list:

green singers: $85/pair
owls: $180/pair
gouldians: $70-110 each depending on color
male star finch: $40
shaft tails: I think were $40 each
societies: $10-15, 2/$25
zebras: $10-25 each depending on color/vendor

also saw a gorgeous pin tailed wydah pair, but was afraid to ask the price as I might have taken them home! #-o
4 zebras Crystal, Beau, Bella and Dmitri (the little squeaker), 2 societies Diva and DJ (and their 6 adult kids), and 2 green singers Thor and Regina

Haha yup! I just remembered those this morning as well! I had never seen them in person, and they were very pretty! I think they are in my finch future.... When I have space to expand to more species!
