Bird Prices

Prices change a bit here every so often, and without having to drive done distance this is what I can get at the stores.

Pet Smart:
Zebras: 16$
Societies & Spice 21$
Diamond Doves 39.99
Budgies 20$

Pet Supplies Plus (always has birds hard to find, but are always single birds, with unknown age, etc.)

Zebras 25$
Societies 20$
Green Singers were about 80$
Cordon blues, around 90
Cutthroats also 90
Silverbills were on sale for 40$
OCWB 40$

Locally owned petshop (creekside)
Has zebra pairs for 25$
& rarely had button quail for 20$ a pair

I don't bother looking into breeder prices, most are far & don't have many species. Mind you these pet stores rarely have these bids and when they do they are sickly, plucked and not even in pairs. Hoping if I get a job at the petstore ill have access to better birds with better prices.

WOW some of these prices!! I only have run into 3 different ones.
1. Lady Gouldian $45-$500 Depends on color variety.
2. Red Throat Parrot Finches-$90 ea
3. Owl Finches-$70 ea

I paid $45 each for my Red head green back male and my orange head green back male.

Do Any of you know or have an estimate of wholesale prices for Red Throated Parrot Finches and Owls? I'm located near Houston, I'm sure prices will vary from state to state, but Any info would be helpful. Thanks!!!

Retail here Is Any where from $100-$190 each on RTPF, and $80-170 each for Owls. Huge differences from one shop or the other!

I bought my RTPF and SGPF from a local Texas breeder for $350 for the pair. The owls go for $60 for normals, $80 for normal/fawn, and $100 for fawn to $120 for fawn males. These are estimates and vary based on availability etc.

Just came across a fella on kijiji here in town
who wants to sell a pair of twin spots for $220.00. Dont know any more details.
Gouldians range between $80.00 to a $190.00 each and that's from people who are breeding, not a pet shop. Pet stores more expensive by far.

Most pet stores are about double the price you can buy them from private breeders, after all they are buying the birds from breeders and have to pay rent for the shop. Pet stores don't make nearly the profit breeders do.

I had an : are you kidding me!!!??? moment today when I walked into Petland. As usual made a beeline to the bird section of the store. And there they were, lovely little society finch babies. They were pied white and orange/tan in colour and all lined up on a perch as sweet as can be. I thought to myself how cute they would look in my house and how much I would love to take some home etc....

Then I saw the price and almost fell over. They wanted $75.00 for a pair, with individuals being around $40.00 each.

Let me tell you, I got out of there mighty quick. Absolutely crazy prices.

Here in Chicagoland:

Zebras, common, white or pied: $16.95 (PetSmart) to $35.00 (local shop) each. PetSmart once had a sale where they were 8 dollars a bird.

Societies, fawn/chocolate pied, sometimes crested: $21.99 (PetSmart), $35.00 (local shop) each.

Cutthroat: $79.99 (PetSmart)

Green Singer: $89.99 (PetLand)

Spice: $34.99 (local shop).

Black and White Munia: $9.99 (local shop)

I have never seen any other species.

lovezebs, Wow, that is outrageous! Society's go for $15-30 here for one Society, depending on color, sex, mutation or if closed banded. Only the really rare mutations go for 25-30 each!

I thought they were crazy prices, and these prices were for all their societies, not anything 'special' really.
