Really...that's great! You have to wait because you will have no one to take care of them while you're gone? Well if there are a lot available now, there should be some available later. It's the season they reproduce a lot. I know, when I lived in that area, there were finches advertised all the time. I hope you get what you're looking for. :)

That's a shame you don't know anyone that could take care of them while you're gone. I looked on a map and I don't know anyone close to you at all. I know a lot of people various places in PA, but just not close to you. I had someone who was bonded come and walk my dog twice per day when I was on vacation when I lived in Maryland. I wouldn't just trust a person on craigslist or anything. I wonder if you could do research between now and then and find someone who is bonded. It will cost money but you'll have peace of mind. Just a thought that might work. :(

The only thing about friends is that they have to be knowledgeable about birds. If one of the birds became ill during the week, would they be willing to step up? You have to play out every scenario. They could feed and water them and do the minimal in a week and they would be okay...if there wasn't a problem. Just want to present that in case you didn't think about the what ifs.

I totally understand. My only saving Grace is I don't live anywhere near bird shows. The nearest to me is New Hampshire and it's not close at all, or I'd be in big trouble!!! My daughter is very near Lancaster. It's a good show! I wish I could go there...and bring back some birds. You could go and get a couple...maybe.

I've always wanted to go to one. When I was in Maryland they had them all the time. Finches were plentiful. Here...it's almost impossible to fine even a zebra finch within 75 miles. I wanted to go to the NH show, but I'm not well and it's far and it's always in April. the snow was still really deep at that time of year. That kind of drive...just never worked out. Oh well! I hope you get just what you want. If you get just a couple of what you really want at a show can a friend look after them in a cage in their home? That's a lot easier than an aviary of a lot of birds. If something went wrong you could direct them what to do over the phone...possibly.
