Hi All,

I'm looking for some breeders in PA that are offering a variety of finches. I'd like to expand my flock with something other than societies and zebras. Not that I would pass up on these guys, but I'm having such a hard time finding fellow breeders in the area.

Thanks

Hey there,

Not sure what part of PA you are in, but I'm in Baltimore. I've got owl finches and occasionally some gouldians. If you are near Philly, there's also Stewart's Bird Farm in Harleysville. They usually get lots of species in, although they don't actually breed them on site.

Hope this helps!

I am in Delaware near Philly, and looking to buy a male Gouldian, red head, purple breast, green back for my lonely female. I have bought 2 from Stewarts, one lived 2 months, the other 9 days. I have a heat lamp, and the female is fine, I am just having no luck with the males. I had a strong healthy pair in the past in the same cage/location but without the heat lamp. If you know of a bird for sale in the area, I am interested. Alice

Stewarts is hit or miss as far as healthy birds go. He puts incoming birds directly in with the others with out any type of quarantine procedure. Examine any birds you are considering very carefully and prepare for a full quarantine hen you get home. Not saying they don't have good birds because they do but they also have bad in between.

Here's a link to bird breeders in PA for gouldians that may be of help. If you want something else just change the search to that species.

Here's a link to birdsnways PA breeders list just scroll down to PA. I bought birds from "Wendy's Gouldian Finches" years ago and they were great birds. She also has Bourke Parakeets, Cordon Blues and Owl Finches.

Good luck, hope you all can find that special bird :)

Hello! I haven't been on the forum for quite some time but I am in Northeast PA. I breed gouldians, owls, shafttails, cutthroats, & red faced parrot finches. I also currently have a male orange breast waxbill & a male cutthroat available

Okay will do. Do you regularly have owls and do you breed the other finches listed on your signature most years? We just have gouldians and 1 pair of shaft tails. Not sure of the sex of the shafties but we have been desperately looking for owls, forbes, and stars.

Lawnsofdawns and I live together - We are only breeding owls, gouldians and firefinches right now. Everyone else is just for enjoyment. There have been a lot of people asking us for owls, so we will let them breed for more than one clutch like we did last year. The only downside being the owls will all be related.

Hi everyone ! I live in Newark and have family in south philly. I have zebras and society that I would like to pair up. Looking for all types of zebra mutations. Was thinking about making a trip to Stewarts but kinda worried now.

I've been to Stewarts several times. You should be able to tell who is in good health and who isn't. Overall, I can't recall having any issues with the birds that I got there, though there have been days I've left with noting. I recommend them to people all the time. As with any new birds, be sure to quarantine before introducing to your own.

They also have cheap cages, seed and nesting materials.
