Maybe someone can point me in the right direction??
I know this is a forum that specializes in finches, however, I know sometimes there are miscellaneous bird topics on this site and was hoping someone out there could point me in the right direction....
I would like to, down the line, add a pet crow to our flock. I am looking a year or two in the future. I would like to set everything up first and make sure I am FULLY educated on the bird before picking one up. That being said, the more research I do, the more I am finding that this really is a bird for me. So, my question; does anyone know a breeder for this bird? Again, it will be a year or so, but I would love to call one up and pick their brain.
I know this is off topic and I am sorry. But if anyone out there could just point where to go, I would be soooo grateful.
Thanks for everyones time.

I don't know a crow breeder, but do know an amazing softbill breeder who might offer you a recommendation. She is Kateri Davis at https://sites.google.com/site/davislundaviaries/. You might also check out the softbill classifieds at http://www.softbillsforsale.com/Softbills-sale.asp.

My parents had a pet crow when I was much younger, but it was a rescue, so I couldn't point you to a breeder.
I can tell you they are devilishly brilliant though. The one my parents had did more tricks than our pet dog and hoarded all kinds of weird things like pieces of potpourri. It could get into anything (sealed food containers included). If it gets used to sitting on people's shoulders, beware of earring yanks. They will also eat just about anything; I remember it was a constant battle to keep the bird out of the dog food. :/
Our house definitely had the "coolest pet" title among the neighborhood kids though!

Yea, I am hearing all kinds of stories like that from people who own crows. Everyone just LOVES them. So excited about finding a breeder, but most (if not all) seem to be in the USA
. But I will keep looking and gives me time to fully study up on them and build a great home for new family members I hope to find.

Sorry, I did not mean to be off the finch forum for so long, things just got really busy
. So here is what I found out about getting a crow....
1) So I had emailed the lady at https://sites.google.com/site/davislundaviaries/. Super friendly and she pointed me to her webmix at http://www.symbaloo.com/mix/softbillaviculture. She mentioned that there where two crow breeders on that site. She also said http://softbillsforsale.com is a good place to watch cause they get random birds for sail often.
2) So, I had went to http://corvitude.com/corvidranch.html (found on her webmix) and was so excited. I had found this site before (when studying crows) and I could not seem to find it again until now. I emailed the guy. Here is what I found out; his crows cost $1,500 to $2,000. He does ship to Canada (which is good cause I live in Canada
), but shipping and the paper work costs an extra $800. There is a waiting list so I would have to get on the list with a downpayment.
So, super expensive, but am totally going to do it. Have to take time to save the money and prepare the home for the crow but I am soooo excited. I really really really appreciate the help Martie. Thank you so much
.

Re: Maybe someone can point me in the right direction??
Maria Faith, I'm so glad you were able to find a good place to buy your crow! Kateri is an amazing person and has done so much for the softbilled birds community.
While I knew they would be expensive, I didn't realize they were as much as they are - and it's unfortunate that you couldn't find a breeder in Canada. It is definitely worth paying the price to get what you want from someone very experienced and producing good birds, however.
Thank you for the update. I wish you all the best in putting this all together and finally getting a great new companion. Hope you'll share photos when the time comes!
