I am interested in purchasing a Captive Bred BCCB hen ($70) on birdproduct.com. I am also considering a pair of St Helenas ($35 ea) and Orange Cheeked Waxbills ($35 ea). The minimum order for purchasing birds is $250 and the shipping fee is $120 including shipping crate. If anyone is interested in purchasing Captive Bred birds from this breeder and sharing the $250 minimum cost & shipping fee, please send me a PM. I am getting a list of the birds he breeds and their cost. Thanks :)

I don't know, Charlie. You are actually the 2nd person to ask me that? Should I ask David??? Or does that make it look like I don't trust him??? Truth is...I do NOT want ANY wild caught birds. I am petrified of buying from anyone that YOU ALL (meaning the Mods) do not know personally.

The best way to guarantee the birds are captive bred is with the use of closed bands. I trust the NFSS bands the most.

Makes perfect sense to me. I emailed him and asked if his Captive Bred finches are closed banded. I told him that I am looking for young birds, around 3-12 months old. Does that sound right to you? My youngest finch was 3 months when I got him from Su. My oldest are my green singers who are 1 year old, from Martie. I am VERY NERVOUS to purchase from a complete stranger!

Given your history, I can certainly understand your feelings. But never hesitate to ask questions of anyone, breeder or seller or vendor. If they don't like being questioned, they aren't the type person you want to deal with anyway. Good breeders/brokers/vendors don't mind questions, they expect them. Unfortunately, there are a lot of good breeders/brokers out there who still don't closed band their birds, which makes it more difficult for the serious buyers.

I got an email from David this morning. He seems like a very nice guy and didn't seem "put out" by my questions. He does not band any of his Captive Bred birds :( . They are bred/reared in a big aviary and then caught while they are young. This makes be worry about inbreeding and not knowing the actual age of the birds. It also makes me feel unsure about my birds being bred in the US, rather than being wild caught. So, I will be patiently waiting for Ahmed to hatch out a lovely hen for me this Spring/Summer [-o<
