I have shipped all kinds of chicken, Quail, and Pheasant eggs many times but never Finch eggs. I would always recomend priority mail and Not over night shipping. Once I paid $350 for 12 Black Masked Bobwhite quail eggs shipped overnight, and every single air cell in the eggs were busted. We tried it two more times with the same result and finally shipped priority....Not a single busted air cell! I don't know what they Do with overnight packages but they must be rough on them. Just my 2 cents. And all my zebs are on babies, no eggs right now.

A few years back, a few of us on an old canary forum exchanged eggs through the mail with moderate success. As I work for the post office, I've outlined a couple of times on this forum the proper way to collect, pack and ship the eggs via priority mail for optimal success. If you use the search feature on this forum, I'm sure you'll easily find it. Bob

Here are some interesting topics on shipping eggs... I will advise not shipping in the colder months, mail is often off loaded onto planes and the air temps are so low n some areas especially at night. The eggs will freeze and crack...by the time you get them they may thaw and be a gooey mess.

Sure thing. I just saw this. Sorry for the late reply. Just shoot me a pm when it's warmer. I'm in the 30's tonight. One pair has chick and the other should be hatching soon. Getting several eggs from the all girl flight but have no boys to pair the girls up with.

Maybe some of you with spare eggs, the clear ones from female-only cages, could practice different types of packing and then package abuse to see what works best? And then taking the successful packaging and even shipping some clear eggs as test runs?

My USPS carrier is now nice (People- and mail-hating Helga is gone!!! Don't know where, don't care. Hurray!) but the alternate days guy is horrid--doesn't actually stop the truck as he goes by and puts the mail in the box, so your box gets yanked over sideways a bit, left open, mail hanging out, door slowly getting bent. And some days it's Meet Your Neighbors Day, as we all get some of everyone else's mail. But UPS is going way downhill, the nice guy is working our town less often, and the donkey's backside is coming more often (they guy who sees me come out on the porch to him, with cane, half-blocked off glasses and arm in splint, and lectures me about how my bushes are getting overgrown and the yard needs work), last package was marked FRAGILE, it hit the porch with such a THUNK I thought the ice-filled gutter had finally fallen. Even Fedex has now gone bad, heavy box from Grandpa, marked Handle With Care, also THUNKED onto porch, onto the sand/salt/mud-covered ice in the drip line from melting ice-filled gutter, no plastic bag (which I know they carry), and no doubt I was home as the walk runs alongside the livingroom with 11ft window, lights, TV, me, right inside. Then there were the fresh flowers sent to me for Valentine's day, 20°F outside, and the guy leaves them against the garage door, flat on the ground and nearly unseeable, instead of coming to the door or porch 30 feet away. Good thing I caught sight of him getting back into his truck and driving away, and went looking for why he was out there, or they would have stayed there until hubby got home from work.

Must be all the bad weather putting them all in a foul mood. But having regularly gotten packages with bootprints and even tire tracks across them, I wouldn't give any indication the contents were damageable, and would like to develop abuse-proof packaging.

When the weather warms up I would also be interested in shipping eggs. I have been looking for Diamond Firetails and eggs would work for me.

I have been tossing eggs out such as Cape Dove, Gouldian and Owl Finch. So I have eggs for trade or?

I have been trading eggs with my friends local for a few years. I have some Blue Cap Cordon Bleu eggs on the way.

Thanks

Cape dove eggs. Hmmm...so tempting. Lol Gouldians and owls might be fun to add new bloodlines. This could be a fun way for us to try swapping bloodlines for some of the more common species without shipping live birds.

I had a lot of success with the poultry eggs I used to ship.

Don't think it's necessary to practice shipping clear eggs. I can almost promise you that if you pack and ship them in the method that I outlined, they will all arrive in one piece. (Cindy's way should work just as well) Other factors that may contribute to the viability of shipped eggs include temperature and pressure extremes, oxygen, vibration and carbon monoxide - things that only fertile eggs will tell of if true.
