Must rehome finches and cages

Post by dcompt » Sat May 31, 2014 5:45 pm

If this should go in the marketplace forum, someone please move it, but I am not selling - I will give this to anyone who could adopt my finches and all their worldly goods.

I have become increasingly disabled, and caring for them is just becoming too much - they have become a burden rather than a pleasure. I wanted to post them on the forum first because I know anyone from here would care for them well. What I have:

7 male society finches
A&E double flight cage and rolling stand
A&E single flight cage and rolling stand
Petco finch cage - 18x18x30
Smaller cage of the kind usually sold to imprison parakeets that I used for transport
2 ZooMed AvianSun lamps
Ceramic heat lamp

Piles of stuff: nest boxes, perches, greenery, dishes, feeders, waterers, seed.

The finches: 6 chocolate pied, 1 fawn or chestnut pied - I don't know how to tell those variations apart. They are tightly bonded in two pairs and a trio. I know that four of them are between two and two and half years old. The others in all probability are as well. They have never been bred or
used as fosters, but observing their behavior, I think that one pair and the trio would probably make good fosters. They are all exuberant nest builders and very dedicated to their nests, spending time in them during the day as well, so sitting on eggs might not be much of a stretch. Since they have never seen society chicks, they might accept others. The second pair might succeed as well, but they are a little flightier than the others. Though they have paired themselves up, they are used to being housed together so they do not need separate cages.

The fine print. The A&E cages do have some rust right at the bottom because we all know what enthusiastic bathers societies are, and I have not been able to remove it and repaint them - that is a DYI job that is just beyond me at this point. However, they are not rusty wrecks by any means. The Petco cage has been used very little and is pretty much like new. The fourth is too small to be a permanent home for finches, but could be used for transport or a hospital cage.

The ZooMed lights are not the pride of the manufacturer's art and tend to lean. I have them "splinted" at the moment, so they are not beautiful, but are fully functional. Anyone with any mechanical ability (that is, anyone other than me) could probably easily find a better way to stabilize them. I didn't even try. That is just the way they are made.

I have only a small car and could not transport all of this, so anyone wanting it will have to be able to pick it up. I am in Shreveport LA, so an easy drive from east Texas, south Arkansas, and central Louisiana.

I really hope that someone can help me out here. The guys are charming, like all societies, and I will miss them, but I think the time has come that I really can no longer for them as well as they deserve.
Donna

7 happy societies: Pippin Onewing, Badger Boldfinch, Gaffer McChirp, Hermit Funnyfeather, Ziggy Streakwing, Patch Rowdybird, and Chip Potterfinch.

Oh Donna, so sorry, such sad news. I hope someone on the forum will come through with a helping hand.
Sadly I'm up in Canada and too way too far.
I hope that your health will improve and that things will get better. :-)

Hey Donna...so sorry to hear about you having to rehome your finches. I know how much you adore them. But your health definitely comes first. Best of luck finding a wonderful new home for them. Sending you big hugs :)
