Maryland or Delaware Breeders/Birds Available

Hello! New to the forum here (and to finches in general). Just wondering who here is in the MD/DE area and who breeds finches or has them available? I currently have societies and javas but would like to add a few more varieties to my collection. I bought the societies from PetsMart and I got the javas from Murad at MD Exotic Birds. I was planning on buying a pair of bronze wing mannikins from Murad as well but they were too small and could fit through the bars on my cage (1/2" bar spaces). He had a ton of other beautiful birds but I'm guessing a lot of them were young because they all seemed much smaller than my societies with the exception of the larger breeds like the javas so I'm afraid to get anything smaller than a java from him for fear that they'll escape my cage as well.
In any event, hello! I'm Marshal and I live on the eastern shore of Maryland!

nixity and
birdclaws are in your area. You won't be able to PM them until you have achieved regular member status, but if you want to contact either of them, you can send the PM to me and I can forward it for you.
Welcome to the forum! There's lots of good reading at the Finch Information Center, linked at left, where you can check out some of the species you might like to add to your collection. I visited Murad back in 2007 when the CITES ban was lifted on African imports, and he had hundreds of birds at that time. The imports have slowed way down, but I imagine he still has quite a few.

Thanks so much, Sally! Murad' set up was incredible. My mom made the ride with me (we're about two hours out) because she was curious and fell in love with a green cheek conure he had. We ended up taking to him for about three hours about his birds, how the import process works, how he first got started in breeding and eventually importing, how he ended up on the US...it was fascinating. He encouraged me to try breeding if I enjoyed keeping finches and said that there weren't many professional breeders in the area so my mind has been buzzing ever since! He had a few other species I was interested in that looked big enough to not escape my cage that I think I want to go back and get.
And Birdclaws, sounds good! Would you happen to have procing for your Gouldians? I'm still new to procing and am not sure what the going rate is. I've seen them listed anywhere from $40 to $200 a bird.

We have several colors available right now if you'd be interested. We have several Green males and females ($50), 2 Yellow males ($75), a Silver Hen ($125), and possibly a Pastel Blue male ($115). We have several head colors of the greens available including Black, Yellow, and I believe Red as well. We are located in Central Virginia but go to Richmond and sometimes DC for day trips.
