Since there are international laws regarding shipping exotic birds, you'd need to check with local breeders. I can't think of someone from that part of the world, but who knows? There are many FF members from around the world and someone may know a breeder near your area. Good Luck!

yeah.. i dont think ill be lucky enough to find breeders for those kind of finches.. we come across them generally as one offs in petshops .. and they are bought immediately.. i was VERY lucky to manage to get hold of a pair of cuban finches this week... i had NEVER before managed to come across a pair in Malta.. hence the price tag on them too

Matthias Did you try talking to the Pet stores and put yourself on a waiting list...asking them if any of the finches you desire come in to let you know immediately. That way you won't miss them. They may be willing to do that.

Yeah I tried bu t they just say to call in every now and then .lame if u ask me .I really wanted to let all birds in the aviary at once to avoid territorial behaviour as much as possible but I seem to be out of luck on this one

Cant help thinking there has to be someone importing or trading birds into Malta , where do other fanciers source their birds , are you a member of a society , http://www.waxbillfinchsociety.co.uk might be worth contacting , someone there should be able to answer your query .

Regards ,
Mick .

Yes they do get finches but limited numbers due to the restricted market for them.the more exotic finches like fire finches and parrots and wax bills etc are not at all easy to find.im sure somehow ill manage to find that one breeder which sells.i was recommended one but got a shock when he quoted me a price for a pair of melba finches.450 euro for the pair.its absurd and unheard of.i reckon he just tried his luck testing my pockets.no luck for him however.

Maybe you can check Malta's policy or laws on importing finches there? Maybe, if it is allowed, you can order some from a broker and have them shipped. The quarantine may not allow that to happen, but had to brain storm. I hope you find a way to get the finches you are wanting to keep.

i thought about that also Deb.. found nothing on the net.. and am dreading contacting any form of government department as it will just take weeks upon weeks to get an answer which will probably not be of any help any way.. trying to contact another pet shops who apparently imports from belgium and holland.. waiting for his reply

Great news indeed! Getting birds is all about networking, finding the right people who can supply you with the species you want.
