While scrolling through the finch listings (terrible idea... there are Owls, BCCB, and Self societies available in the Dallas area) this breeder posted last month wanting $3000 for all the birds so they've come down $500....

And I might have someone interested in the hookbills, but there is still no way all the finches are fitting in my bird room... I really was interested in the GB waxbills, Strawberries, Javas, and Cut throats, possibly a few goulds.

Just heard back from the breeder and they are willing to split the birds up if anyone is interested...they have already sold some of the Gouldians and only have four males left. Everything else is still available.
I'm getting info on some of the birds and prices if anyone else is interested.

Oh, wow, after finding a budgie in my driveway, then two weeks later getting her a friend, AND the same day we find the budgie, bringing home a blue-throated macaw, and today finding a new mate for my Gouldian male, I am tapped OUT! Plus, today we went to the bird fair and spent way too much on toys, etc. I would love to have those strawberries on the list, but I am out of space now, too

I saw some black-faced zebras I could have taken home today, as well, but alas.....no more room at the inn.
Thanks
Colt for thinking of me. If it had been a couple months earlier.........

You're welcome Karen.
Well the deal gets sweeter and slightly bitter....
All the pairs come with their cages. So you buy a pair of Strawberries and their cages comes with them. Awesome. Totally down with that. All the birds are $125 a pair. Except I'm assuming the zebras and Societies... So great deal on the Berries. Terrible deal on the Gold-breasted Waxbills...

I would only be interested in the Cordon Bleus if they are Blue-capped and also closed-banded. If the $125 includes the cage, and the cages are decent, then the prices are very reasonable. Even for the Goldbreasts, depending on what the cages are like. Jan Door was asking $80/pair for her Goldbreasts, so if the cage is worth $35, then maybe they would be worth it. I simply don't have any extra money right now. Did you send this info to Helen and Su?

I haven't yet. But I will. I found out the Strawberries are actually Fire finches. The cages appear to be standard 30x18x18. The Cordon Blues are Red-cheeked and close banded in 2012.
I know how you feel about the extra money Sally. I'm ridiculously broke. He offered me $1300 for all the finches. But sadly I just don't have that to spend right now.

Man, I wish I could, but I won't have any room (not to mention the cash) for 2 months.

I'll be at the Cleburne mart, Sally! Won't be able to buy anything, but I want to see different species in person.

Lacybug Then you'll have to check out Jan Door's tables--Texas Pride Aviary. Jan will have many finch species, plus some softbills. I always enjoy seeing what she brings, she usually has some that I will never be able to own, but I love seeing them in person at her table.

He advertised that he had a pair of Strawberries. He didn't know the difference between Strawberries and Fire finches?

Apparently he bought an entire aviary out in Canton and moved the birds to Grand Saline. I've seen pictures of all the birds he's selling and honestly they look really good. He's just fairly new to finches and not really knowledgeable on some of the terms and species.
He wants the finches and weavers gone by Monday as he's decided to only breed the large birds and has several pairs of macaws being delivered.
I also mentioned the mart to him. Are there still tables open
Sally? I have a friend who breeds hookbills that might be interested in coming up...

Hey everybody! I was at the Ponchatoula bird mart this past Saturday. OMG...I lost my mind as soon as I walk through the door! I purchased a pair of Owls and two Goulds. (one blue and one "split to blue")...I'm even more confused than ever about the Goulds but I told you I "lost my mind"... it was not my fault...I was high on birds!!! Jan with Texas Pride Aviary was there with her beautiful selection!!! You have to see to believe!!! I will post pics of my birds but I am totally lost on genetics...I need help. Hope someone can put it in simple English for me!
