ISO domestic bred Goldbreast hen in PNW

Post by h2olilee » Thu Jan 01, 2015 1:06 pm

I'm looking for a domestic bred (not wild caught) Goldbreasted Waxbill hen for my lonely male. I hope to breed them too since it seems so hard to find any that are not wild caught around here. I am in the Portland, OR / Vancouver, WA area, but willing to travel in Oregon & Washington. If anyone in the PNW has any or knows any sources, I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks!

Yes, all of theirs are wild caught unfortunately. I don't understand how a wild caught bird can be so cheap after all they go through. They should be $125, not $25 in my opinion!

I understand your reluctance to get another wild-caught, but if you can't find a domestic hen, you could always consider getting a wild-caught hen and raising your own domestics. Then you could swap with other breeders.

I just purchased a pair from my Pet Shop, for $127 for the pair. They are not wild caught. They are not that rare here in Canada. There was another pair in the same Shop, and I have seen them before.

I'm not sure where they are getting them from, but I'm assuming Canada. I can ask in my Pet Shop, when I'm there next time. The Bird Manager, should be able to tell me.

I'll try and check around here, just for information, to see if anyone is willing to ship across the border into Wash.

I have purchased goldbreasts from The Finch Farm and they were not flighty at all when they arrived. You should try there, it's close and a great deal!!
