Birds Wanted Local or Shipped to Chicago

Post by Sheather » Thu Jan 29, 2015 12:30 am

I'm trying to find a source to obtain a couple pairs of a few hard-to-find locally birds, in particular Diamond Doves, European Goldfinches, Cordon Bleus, Orange-cheek waxbills, owl finches, parrot finches, or maybe other waxbills. I'm aware of FinchFarm.com but strongly dislike that the majority of their birds are wild-caught and am interested only in keeping captive-bred birds. If anybody is selling any of these birds or knows someone who is in this area, or who might be willing to ship at some point, please contact me. Thank you!

Sheather I know this isn't a question relative to this post but, what is the different between captive bred, and wild caught? Do the wild caught not breed in captivity?
Hi I'm Zachariah.

Sheather - Did you ever get any responses to your question about availability of birds near Chicago? I am in the same situation, looking specifically for Owls. I did see Diamond Doves at a local Petsmart a couple of days ago...

I had my European Goldfinches shipped to me from the finchfarm. One died 1-2 months after arriving, steadily dropping in health before the final moment. The other one is doing fine, but no bands can be found (unlike the other one, which had closed bands) on his legs so he/she may be wild caught.

I'll be getting more goldfinches from some breeders and petshops in NY/NJ since I'm driving up there next week. I prefer to see these birds in person instead of having them shipped.
1 European Goldfinch (on look out for more)
2 Canaries

Sheather - I recently found a guy in Cicero, via eBay classifieds, who claimed to have one pair of Owls only, which I was looking for (among some others, including Shafttails). Well, I get there, and he has 5 Owls (I bought two), along with many other finches, many of which you mentioned in your post. He had red-cheeked CBs, orange cheek waxbills, parrot finches, a pair of red billed firefinches, a single female lavender waxbill, lots of Gouldians, some Java finches, etc etc etc. I am going to try to breed the pair of Owls i purchased from him, so I may have Owls in the future if you're interested...
