Searching for breeders in Texas/Louisiana!

Post by Blackbirdfly » Mon Mar 30, 2015 12:17 pm

Just lost my pair of redcheeked cordon blues and I need finches back in my life! I've always raised larger hook bills and various parrot breeds but once my husband bought my first pair of finches for me about 5 years ago I was hooked! I'm so sad that I didn't get a fledgling off these guys:(. Had them hatch one successful clutch on their own before I could move societies in to foster...but my male killed them at 5days old. I have 2 big empty flight cages that need occupants!

I'm hoping to find a pair of Swee/yellow bellied waxbills and perhaps a couple societies or RC cordon blues again. I'm in Shreveport and hoping to find any nearby breeders or folks traveling to marts in North Texas, East Texas or Louisiana that we can meet at so that I don't have to ship these babies!

There are many finch breeders in Texas! I am not sure if they are working with the species you are currently looking for. You might consider shipping birds in through the airlines. I have done this myself twice and it is certainly worth the extra shipping fee.

Thank you both for your help! Hoping to meet birds and breeders in person before resorting to shipping...but if I don't have any luck at spring/summer bird marts I'll consider looking into shipping the right feathered friends!

I mentioned the Cleburne mart in May in another thread, but there are several other marts coming up, one this weekend in Grapevine, which is between Dallas and Fort Worth. It is a new mart, so I don't know much about it or who will be there. There will also be a mart in Temple, April 25 I believe. I'll get that added to the calendar when I have a chance.
