Strawberry Finches

Post by Colt » Thu Aug 06, 2015 6:14 pm

I have two very much weaned, but very unsexed juvenile Strawberry finches. Mom and Dad would like to go back to nest and can't seem to be able to because the kids want to play house...lol

Since the birds are unsexed, and not NFSS banded because the little twerps keep sliding their bands off, I'm only asking $80 each for them. These birds are siblings so you'd need unrelated birds in order to breed them.

Pick-up or local delivery only. It's well over 100 degrees outside I'm not going to ship. Located in Commerce, TX. Near the DFW area as well as East Texas/Tyler.

Chestnut-breasted Mannikin

Shaft-tail Finch

Tri-colored Nun

Hey colt,
I had the same problem with the bands slipping off and found a solution that seems to work fairly well. Those ez-ring bands that the NFSS shop sells seem to keep the NFSS band in place if you stack them so the ez ring is on the bottom nearest the toes. Just a thought for future tricky birds. Good luck finding these guys a home! :)

That is a great tip! Do you mind if I post it on the NFSS facebook page?

Colt

Now that it is winter - do you have any MALE strawberry finches or a breeding pair of Strawberry's that you would ship to Montana? I am looking for 2 male strawberry's and my breeder friend is looking for a breeding pair.

Please let me know.

Thanks

PK

pmknoll - I don't have any currently available. That has been the only successful clutch the one pair has had. Every clutch since then has either not been incubated consistently, double clutched, or they've broken the eggs... :( I'm hoping to get some babies soon though. I've been trimming nails and providing new nesting material.
