ISO Gouldians in Texas

I'm not ready to buy yet (though I have 4 extra male gouldians & frillback pigeons to trade/sell) but would like to get in touch with folks who will have Gouldians available in 2016 in Texas. I am located in central TX but willing to drive to pick up/meet in person.

I am especially interested in rare colors. I love anything unique & want my flock to be a flower garden of color. I have a few pairs of Gouldians already but want to collect as many fun colors/color combinations as I can. I am new to Gouldians but am NOT new to birds. I have a lifetime of bird experience & am always learning something new. I got my love for birds from my grandmother & mother and am passing it along to my daughter. Any birds I get will have a wonderful home--I am willing to provide referances & send updates.

I am also interested in Grasskeets, especially splendid/red-chested & bourke. And I am always game for any color/pattern of Frillback pigeon that I don't already have as well as a few pairs of white frillbacks.

Thank you!

PS: by "not ready" I mean that I don't have the cash to play with just yet. But Gouldians can be so hard to find & rarer colors are especially not easy to come by so knowing if there are any breeders within a "day-trip" of me would help me to know how realistic getting local birds is/isn't & how much "play money" I need to start saving up.

Colt on this forum has Gouldians, plus he may have grasskeets, I can't remember. Helen Hoffman, a good friend, also has Gouldians for sale, I will PM you her email address.

There are two marts in Temple each year, spring and fall, and the next one is April 25, 2016. You could always arrange with one of the vendors to bring certain birds for you.

Welcome to the forum! There's lots of good reading at www.finchinfo.com, where you will find many articles on finch care. If you put your general location in your profile, it makes it easier to answer locale-specific questions later on.

Yes I do have Gouldians as well as Scarlet-chested and Bourke Parakeets. I'm located in Commerce, TX. Not sure how far that is from you, but I should have plenty of babies in the new year.

I just came from the home of a Katy, TX small scale breeder. She had some wonderful healthy birds in well maintained cages and a gorgeous aviary. I picked up a lovely BB hen. Prices were good. Easy and friendly lady to buy from. Here is the link I found her with.

Another good source is a lady named Kristy in my neighborhood. Also a super nice girl. I have bought a couple of birds from her (including my first Gould, who is a grandfather to many!) that I've been very happy with.
