Hello,
For all of those who ship their birds wondering if you could give us your experience and expertises.
Also what the laws are in regards to shipping between US and Canada.
Maybe it's me, but from just looking into it I find it so odd you can ship a bird. I would think that some wouldn't survive the trip

Turn towards home, and go there. Many overs, over woods and fields, streams and hills, many overs. Just turn towards home. How else would one go there? Perhaps it was a dream, and you have awakened from it. May the earth rise up beneath you, with home in your heart, and your person waiting.

From what little I know about shipping and receiving birds shipped through USPS, I have learned that it's a risk and you won't be reimbursed if anything happens to your birds. However, I did just receive two pairs last week through USPS and they were just fine, and I'm expecting two more this week. Hopefully they'll be in the same great condition my other pairs were in when they arrived

It is actually illegal to post birds, other than farm poultry hatchlings. But lots of people still do it and they generally don't have the sorts of problems others sometimes report.
It only takes once though to really turn you off the idea.
I listed the link to the post above because they talk about all sorts of shipping options and figured it was at least a start.

Are you saying it's illegal to send birds through USPS?

It is against the USPS regulations to ship finches because of the ability for the bird to go without water and food (for I think it's 3 days). Water and food can not be included in the package but people still do it.
There are some post offices that follow their regulations and some seem to look the other way. So hope that at the beginning and end of your line they ignore it, there can be some hefty fines if they stop you.
A couple years ago a group tried to get the regulation changed but I haven't heard that they succeeded.
If you go to the USPS site and search the regulations you should be able to see the updated book. Also search this forum "shipping USPS" and I'm sure tons of threads will pop up.

US to Canada is a whole other thing, I believe there must be a quarentine between destinations.

I believe there are also quarantines if you ship between Hawaii and the mainland, also US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. I couldn't bring my cockatiels from PR even on the plane with me due to the quarantine restrictions.

I actually wrote about this in a thread " Advice Anyone".
