Re: Bird Prices
Got back to World of Birds today. The Red Siskins are at $575. Looks like one male is a possible hybrid?

Re: Bird Prices
Just talked to a gal selling Cordon Bleus (not sure of exact variety) in Denver on Craigslist. $120 for her breeding pair.

Re: Bird Prices
Speaking of prices, or rather CRAZY PRICES check these out.
These are the prices in one of the Petlands here in Calgary.....
After you smooth down the hair that is standing up on your head, note the "Green Singer" listed st the bottom of the list.
This is a female Weaver, which has been there forever.
I think I even mentioned her in one of my older posts, some years ago.
It took some doing to convince these young ladies as to the fact that it was not a Green Singer, and then they were willing to drop the price down.... by a whole $10.00. I just laughed at them, and walked away.
Here is a link to my thread regarding what at the time were 2 birds...
That was in October 2014, and that bird had been there quite a while before...

Re: Bird Prices
lovezebs - Elana, are these people out of their minds? Or do other stores/breeders also charge an arm and a leg? Are these prices exorbitant even for Canada?
If they should be relatively 'normal', you might as well spend your money on a plane ticket and come visit (+ shop) down here.
You already know we'd love to have you.

Those are crazy prices Iso, but that's what the Petland chain charges in Calgary.
With the exception of Zebras and Socies, most of these birds stay there basically until they die, but at least they have them in a nice flight ( an F030 ) and they are more or less looked after.
I would never pay these exorbitant prices, unless it was for the Goose that laid the golden egg, and then I would really question if she was still fertile, lol.
Thanks for the invite my friend, but I don't see myself doing anymore travelling any time soon

Re: Bird Prices
Just talked to a lovely local breeder of finches (javas, zebras, societies) and canaries. I was specifically inquiring about canaries, so I didn't get finch prices. She raises red factor canaries priced at $155, with sex and health guarantee. (Currently has a sale going on through Mother's Day for $125 canaries and has a pet quality bird, with a goofy toe, whom she's letting go for $105.)

Re: Bird Prices
You can get Red Factors from Breeders at shows in WA for about 1/3 that price.Celeris wrote: Just talked to a lovely local breeder of finches (javas, zebras, societies) and canaries. Re: Bird Prices
I hardly claim to be a canary expert. I was inquiring just to see how she was doing her pricing. I know that you can get the most basic, boring canary for a whopping $150 in the local big box pet stores, so the same price from a breeder hardly feels unreasonable to me.
