Hi there!
I found this little guy at a bird show a few years ago (before I was more aware about the issues surrounding red siskins), and I snapped him up because I was working on a study about red factor canaries and their origins and observing him was very useful.

But, now I find myself with a canary-siskin hybrid who is vigorous, beautiful, and SO musical, but I'm moving to Australia for work in the fall and can't bring him with me. I'm unsure how to rehome him because I don't want to sell a hybrid irresponsibly to someone who won't respect or understand what he is. I've heard that some of us finch/canary people would love a canary-siskin hybrid, but I don't have the contacts to ask.

Any tips on finding this guy a home?

P.S. He was color-fed when he arrived and was a rich red-orange color (pictured in-hand), though at the moment he is yellow (pictured in cage) since I haven't been color-feeding.

In the late 80s and 90s I had red siskins and yellow black-headed siskins (never hybrids, though). I agree, they are great birds, healthy, long-lived, fun and active. I'm sure the hybrids are even better singers.

Love a good European Siskin mule, these are what I actually specialise in along with other European mules,

Have bred and exhibited these on and off for some 30 odd years now and takes a lot to get a really high quality exhibition yellow bird,

buffs are ok but it's the yellow birds and preferably bred from Norwich canaries that we aim for here in England

the males F1 of Red siskin with Canary (c.cucullata x s.canaria) are partially fertile.
From your studies you already know that that was the way to create the red factor canaries right.
Its a long and beautiful process creating your own blood line of solid Red Factor canaries.
I had them 10yrs ago when i lived back home in europe and they're great little birds.

Great to hear from many with experience with these guys!
