I am just finishing my outdoor aviary that has two separate aviaries with the work station in-between. One is 6' x 10'(60 sq. ft.) and the other is 12' x 12'(116 sq. ft.) with the corner cut out. I have a few med. size parrots and was planning to put them in the larger aviary because of it's size and room for them to fly in. The finches going into the smaller one with less sunlight. That was my intentions a few months ago at the beginning of the build. I sold off all but 2 finches, so there is plenty of room to go either way with my birds.
Problem is, I like the larger aviary and plan on buying more finches soon and more in the spring. The few med. parrots will have to wait for company I think. The larger one gets more light and is 2 ft. taller at 10'. I'll send pictures soon. What do you guys think?
Bigger or smaller aviary for finches?

I think it depends on how many new finches you get. The more you have, the more room they need (like any bird).

Hi-
I know the central coast can get cold so I would say give the more delicate birds the aviary with the sun. I'm not sure what species you plan to get. If you are going to have and breed many finches then I would give them the larger aviary. How many parrots do you have? What types?

I have just two Princess of Whales parrots. Yes, the valley does get cold in the winter, so the sun would do only good for the little ones. It is real nice to have options - I love it, but I need to be smart about it too. Keep the advice coming please.
