AE double flight stacked cage?? Anyone have this??
hi,
I passed on a chance for a double flight about 2 months ago that someone was selling on CL locally. It was so wide! I didn't realize there was such a thing, but now poking around online I have found the same type of model but the flights are stacked, rather than side by side!!
Yippee!!
this is the model I'm looking at..(found someone on ebay selling for less even with a hefty shipping charge)
http://www.windycityparrot.com/Merchant ... ct_Count=0
I have some questions....
Does anyone have this model? Is there something I should know about the A&E brand? I read on one bird website that they 'neither endorse nor sell' the brand, and they didn't expound.
I am a little nervous about the GIANT doors on the front. Seems some other flight models have more access doors, or a smaller one inside the big door. I'm thinking that my guys will hide up in the corners anyway if I open the door, but I certainly don't want to run the risk of opening that big thing every single day for food and water. Does anyone have a cage with that type of door that has been working or do you hold your breath when you open it??
thanks in advance for any suggestions!
Wendy

Cant say anything about the brand, never heard of them before.
But you shoul be ok with the cage,i have a flight cage with some diamonds and canarys in and the door looks to be just a bit smaller than them ones, and they have never escaped(yet), but if you are worried they will,if they are indoors just make sure the doors and windows are closed before you open the cage door

Or you could hang a sheet of clear vinyl in front of each door, probably best on the inside of the door. Then when you reach in, you reach around the flap of vinyl, and when you pull your hand out it drops back down to help prevent escapes. Would hardly be visible. I've heard others on here do that.
Otherwise it looks like a really nice cage.

I have one of the same style they are good can't say for sure what brand I have.
As far as the birds escaping through those large doors I found the solution just take a piece of heavy clear venial hang on the inside of cage make it about 1 inch or 1 1/2 wider and longer than the opening i hang on the inside with twist ties so when you open the door it covers the opening your hand just pushes it aside when you put food or water in.
You do have to clean the plastic as they get it dirty but easier than catching them when they get out

I think A&E and HQ are comparable brands--who knows, they might be made in the same factory in China!
I have six of the HQ single flights that have basically the same floor space--32x21x35high. Just think, I could have twelve cages in the same floor space!!
The advantage to the double flight is that you can have one long flight cage. The disadvantage is that it does take up a lot of floor space.
The others have given great ideas for blocking that door, I need to get some vinyl myself. I have been holding a large catch net over the opening when I work, as my birds have a knack for escaping, but that is a pain trying to hold onto the net with one hand while working with the other.

sorry, haven't been on in a few days...
I've got 4 fids that I would be moving in. In fact, ordered it today but white is on backorder.
I've got 2 males zebras that I will put on one level and an owl and a cordon blue that will go on the other. I think they will really appreciate the flying room.
oh and I'm not sure it is large enough for any more than that but I didn't check the calculator.....
