hi
yes you can use it while they are in situ as there are no fumes from it...just smells like iodine really, but make sure you read the instructions first as you dont need that much....it is a very economical buy it is a bit more pricey than others but it does spread out well, just a word of advice make sure everything after it is washed is well dried down before letting the birds back, this is a copy direct from the makers dont take my word for it just read this.the only reason you need to make sure its dry is if you are not putting anything down on the floor after you have finished bird poo and water do not mix welll and you will end up doing it all over again

Vanodine V18 Iodine Complex Disinfectant has been proven to offer a more suitable and better value alternative to more risky products like household bleach particularly within the aviary or birdroom.
It is especially helpful for keeping wild bird feeders and the areas surrounding them free from harmful bacteria.
4 mls to 6 ltrs of drinking water sterilisation. 10 mls to 5 ltrs of water aerial drinker
Safe to breathe and even drink
Kills avian flu, tuberculosis, egg drop pathogen
Kill viruses, bacteria and fungus on contact
Unlike bleach Vanodine works on soiled surfaces
Inexpensive
Eliminate Salmonella, Fowl Cholera and E.Coli
As far as wild bird feeding is concerned Autumn (specifically) is a time when bacteria and fungal spores proliferate through warm and damp conditions. It is wise to take extra precautions at this time particular - but of course all-year-round-ensuring feeding utensils and the area around them are kept clean.
you can always tell a yorkshireman, but you cant tell him much

I have never disinfected a branch that I took out of my yard. If the branch is free of mold, lichen, fungus etc I just put it my cage/aviary. It's never caused a problem for me.
