Donna -maybe because your bird room is GINORMOUS! ;)

Honestly though when they poop in the same spot over and over in a cage or even in the flights you can smell their odors. Especially if the area gets wet from their drinking water and or bath tubs. The urine starts to smell -

I have a very strong sense of smell and you can smell their poops/urine - very faint but it is there. I do agree if the odor can be smelled from another room then the bird might be sick with something but normally you can't smell their smells unless your very near their area.

Depending on what you use in their cages you could minimize any smells by cleaning everyday or every other day. Or you could use essential oils like Thieves and Purification by Young Living in their area...

The one thing I noticed is when feeding boiled egg and the finches decide later to bathe or leave dropping in their water it tends to smell more. After refilling cups all through out the day I am thinking of investing in footies for waterbottles and removing all water cups from all cage.

Guess smell can be very subjective .
Sometimes we get used to one smell cos we're there day in and day out and our sense of smell becomes immune / or used to it .
Just like when someone sprays perfume or a sweaty armpit ???
May be poison to one but nice to the other

The formula for the recipe is not mine but a professor from Japan .
You can google more on it under "Effective Microorganisms". Think they even have it in the States .
Falconry is not a slave/master relationship. It is one of cooperation and trust; for the hawks are free to leave whenever they wish, but the vast majority of hawks choose to return to their falconer.

I think any quantity of anything that contains waste will smell and the smell would be magnified upon getting wet -- but like all animals birds have their own scent (apart from the waste). For instance, dogs smell like dogs -- when you wash them their odor is magnified even though they are clean.

People also have a natural 'odor' that we don't normally notice (no I'm not talking B.O. !) I have heard it said that Americans smell like butterfat to other cultures...and they say that the scouts (on both sides) during the Korean conflict could sometimes "spot" the presence of an enemy soldier by their scent.

So, maybe just the quantity of birds each having their own odor is a significant cause of the smell?

What a nice boyfriend (BTW) to phrase his observation so thoughtfully! :)
