Does anyone have experience using cherry branches for perches? I got my hands on loads of them this weekend while I was visiting my parents. Unfortunately, after I got them home, I looked them up and they are listed as one of the potentially toxic woods, which struck me as odd, because lots of wild birds live on their property and use them... I know that some of the plants and woods listed as potentially harmful are more so for the parrots and larger birds who chew on their perches.
So if anyone has experience, good or bad, with cherry branches, I would be very interested

I always thought fruit wood was fine to use. We don't have cherry trees but we have pear and plumb. I use both.

I've got a big cherry tree in my garden. I use it all the time, leaves cherries and all.
My birds chew off the leaves and use them in their nests too.
Never bothered my birds.

I've used both apple and pear for years without a problem.

I have two apple tree branches in my cage for my Gouldians and they love it and it's safe. Just make sure that they have not been sprayed with any chemicals. As for Cherry Tree branches I have read that they are toxic so I would steer away from them; however, you could always go to your local nursery and see if they have any pruned plum, peach, or apple branches that they would let you have. I have done this but, again, make sure they haven't been sprayed with chemicals.
I cannot wait for the day I persuade my Hubby into building me an aviary so I can incorporate more live plants/forage.

winged- Cherry Apples are a variety of apple tree so I would assume that they would be fine, like the rest of the apple cultivars out there. Being that it is NOT in the cherry family.
