New Indoor Flight Aviary

Post by waxbill lover » Sat Oct 08, 2011 1:57 am

Hey all,

Here are the pics of my new aviary I built (with recycled items from the old oddly tall flight cage originally built for a chinchilla... got it for $40!)

I'm going to the bird fair tomorrow, and hopefully will be filling it up with some beauties!

I plan to cut the legs off by about a foot, so the flight area sits a little bit lower. Drawer pulls out to change the bedding. Used a thick screen-like material for the front, door, and right side, and then wire for the back so I can hang nests, food dishes, and hanging plants/branches.
Bought a shop light from Home Depot, and put full spectrum lightbulbs in it. I hope the birds love it as much as I do. For having next to no carpentry experience, I think it turned out relatively well!
Enjoy.

Looks really great! Wondering why you would cut the legs off a foot? Unless it's so you can care for the aviary easier I would leave it be, birds love to be up high.

It turned out great! =D> I like the tree branches. I have shop lights above my cages as well. Looking forward to seeing photos of birdies in there! =D>

Here's my post from earlier with pictures... aviary has 4 birds in it now. 2 yellow goulds and 2 OC waxbills. (and maybe a couple more peaceful finches in a few weeks...)
