Plastic plants

I've searched in all 6 of the petstores in my area and can't find anywhere that sells those plastic plants with the silk leaves.

So as a last resort I bought some similar plastic plants at the dollar store. But I'm still not sure if it's safe for birds, the plastic could be toxic. What do you guys think?

Go for it! A lot of forum members use dollar store silk plants. Makes it easier on the wallet when they poop all over them and chew them up.
I just rinse mine in hot water to get any dust etc off of them.

My plants come from garage sales and the dollar store. Rinse them well and I'm sure you'll be fine.

Okay good, I was afraid they might try to eat some of the plastic, since pieces of it seems to come off easily. So I cut of all of the little bits that stick out, rinsed in hot and cold water then left out in the sun to dry.

I use silks and plastics from the clearance section at Pier 1, WalMart or craft store. To clean I wash them in bleach and water, rinse and dry upside down from a line on my patio.

If they get dirty while in the cage a little wipe with white vinegar mixed with water works great.

Same here, dollar store!
mine end up in the nest box or nest.

I get mine at hobbylobby. Last week for example they've had a 50% off sale on all silk plants.

When they are dirty I soak them in hot water with some cheap white vinegar added, then rinse outside with the garden hose and let dry.

I have mostly ivy and ferns. I avoid those with flowers or berries because I'm afraid that the birds might get attracted to them and chew them. I have budgies too so I have to be even more careful, they chew everything. I never had an issue with the green leaved silk plants.

mine are also from the dollar store, and if you read the label i am very sure it will say non-toxic as many many of the toys and objects at the dollar store are. dont worry about it, just clean it up and dont put anything in that will easily break off and get eaten such as berries as someone else has said.

I too shop at the dollar store for fake plants. MUCH cheaper than what the pet store sells anyways, and nicer in my opinion.

I totally agree on the price as well. It's 17 for the same exact piece but of course because it's labeled for pets the price is quadrupled. It's all about shopping smart sometimes
