Indoor Aviary advice

I want to build an indoor aviary in the basement that will be 10' wide X 2' deep X 6' high. I however have some reservations for building this aviary and want some advice from others here that have an aviary especially if it is an indoor one.

My questions are as such.
- I plan to use plexy glass around the aviary so it will keep the dust and dirt inside. How much mesh/ventilation opening will be needed for ventilation and where should I place the mesh for best ventilation.
- What do you place on the bottom of the aviary?
- How do I clean the bottom of the aviary?

When I had my aviaries in the basement I put white board about 3 1/2 feet up the front and then wire. The backs and sides were solid white board and the top was wire. For the floor I had rolled vinyl flooring which was easy to sweep and scrub when needed.

I built a 6 foot x 3 foot floor to ceiling aviary. It has modified screened doors on either end and the light covered by a hood (much like wooden aquarium hoods that are solid on 3 si9des.)
This is all wire and on the sunroom. I siliconed the bottom of the painted wood so no seed could get under, put rubber sweeps on the doors to keep the bedding in, the back is covered with formica countertop material so easy to wipe off.
I use care fresh bedding ontop of the ceramic tile floor and get the shop vac out and suck it all up when it gets soiled, Damp Mop and replace.
I usually let the birds free fly while I clean... since it's on the sunroom I can do this safely. Usually if I leave one of the end doors opened when through cleaning they go back in on their own... of course the fresh millet sprays and bath help to entice. If I have a few stragglers I just net them with my large bird net.
I have the seed cups and waterers mounted on the doors so easy to service them daily. This system has worked very well and I have been most pleased with it. Maybe it will give you some ideas.

You have a wonderful aviary. Must have taken a lot of planning to do but well worth it. I was wondering how you keep all the seeds and dust/feathers to a miminum so they don't fly all over the room or do you just use a vaccum often to control the dust and seed situation.

I'm looking to build an aviary for splendid parakeets and notice that you also have splendid parakeets on your web site. I use to have gouldians but fell in love with splendid. Now I have normals, blue, par blue and lutino full red fronted. Such wonderful birds.

Most of the time I have only a few bird in there... either a breeding pair or some youngsters growing up. Fewer birds create lesser mess. I house most of my birds in the breeding facilities in a house of their own...
This aviary is just for pleasye. The seed hulls fall through the course carefresh bedding and do not show, the care fresh bedding also absorbs any water splashes and poop...it also dries out very throughly so no mold or smelly problems. Depending on how many birds I'm housing in it depends on how often I vacuum and replace the bedding. With 2 birds breeding in there it is between clutches...so can be over a month. Yet it still stays nice to view and no smells. However, I do apply a thick layer of the carefresh bedding.

Keep us posted...i am having my husband build me a 10' by 3' too with 6' tall..in our basement. the only problem im worried about is WINTER. I will probably need to get a heater its gets pretty cold here IN IOWA, even in the basement.

Just amazing. I'm still deciding on the project and am looking at where to place the aviary. Also the cleanup of the aviary floor is a concern and I still don't know how to go about this.
