Oak Book Shelf to Aviary???

Post by ranchnanny » Sat Jan 14, 2012 9:20 pm

Here I go again with to much time on my hands.... #-o
I have a double oak trim book case in a guest room that I thought might
make a good indoor aviary, however, it is only 1 ft deep. I don't think its deep
enough what are your thoughts. It's taller then me and I'm 5'3".

Looks good as a bookcase, and it looks like you're using it well. Go to a thrift store like I did & look for an entertainment center. I got mine for 15 bucks, 34W 24D 41H and in the process of converting it to a great aviary now.

If you took out the shelves, put them together and laid it on it's side you would have a fantastic flight that would be 2 feet deep and 6ft (?) long! Of course that means you'd have to put it on a table or something. But still......

1ft wide is far too narrow-making it 2ft as suggested would be fine. A 1ft wide aviary would stress birds out to an unacceptable level. good luck with your project
