Yes that is what I'm always afraid of when a hen gets spooked off her nest and leaves the eggs to go cold.

As you all might of known I had a night light but think it may have been too dark still as the other night I was awoken with the male gouldian flying all over the cage in fright. I now have a lamp that I use and with the help of a dimer switch I'm able to get more light into the room than a night light would offer. Was afraid it was too bright but after a few days all the finches seem to be adjusting well and sleep well with this new dim light on over night.

Hope this helps the next time one of the goulds gets spooked off the perch.

I use the nightlights that turn on automatically when the room gets dark - my house is always lit to some extent now! I have found that some birds need it right next to their cage, though - otherwise they'll still freak out in the middle of the night.

I got a frosted 6.7Watt light bulb and this seems to work well for them. But bob o boy is the room lit to the point that I could easily get around but the finches seem to be ok with it so I guess it will say on all night long.

I don't own any finches now (will be getting 2 soon), but when we had budgies my dad or mom would always leave christmas lights on around the cage so the birds could have a light source. They always felt much more comfortable with the lights on.
I'm a hamster freak and I'm loving it! Currently loving 3 hammies.
