Breeding Cabinet/Cage
Hi Everyone, new to this forum.
i was hoping to see some breeders setups who cage breed there finches.
I have Gouldians, which iv previously colony breed, but as i get more birds and with mutations in the mx i need more control when its comes to the breeding season. i was looking at Breeding cabinets, but im struggling to find the right type for me, if i could see some cages that would be great.
thanks Jarryd

The cages are bought from the link below...they are not cheap but unlike wooden ones made over here do not need painting and last for years.A 4x2x2 costs around $180.
As far as I can make out they are not available in the US...BUT I did find a company over there that sold similar...I can't find my old post now with their address but I'll keep looking.
Daft thing is they are of course ...like everything else made in China...So if there was a call for them one of your cage people would undoubtably stock them.
I take it that in the US companies that specialise in wire products have over the years been the predominant manufacturers of bird cages. So the public over there have been conditioned to buy all wire cages.
I cannot for the life of me understand why nobody makes the cabinet style cages there.Apart from the super posh fancy ones that look like furniture.I'm sure there would be a market...how you manage to breed birds in cages that give no privacy whatsoever to the birds is a mystery to me.
Throughout Europe breeding cages are always a box construction with a wire front, particularly in Holland and Belgium where small bird breeding is huge, they wouldn't dream of using anything else.
If I can find that US company that sells similar I will post it.

Thank you. My husband is very creative. I believe he could make one of those for me. I think I will have him to try. Lucky him!
Also, could you tell me what you have on the floor of your indoor aviary.
Mine is a tile floor and I basically cover it with newspaper and change it out about twice a week. Lots of work.... lots of work..... But it is worth it.

The flight floors are covered in a product bought by the bale from Equestrian suppliers for stables...there are many different...avoid hemp based products as they often have long fine fibres in that can get caught round the birds legs.I would imagine rabbit, hamster and ferret breeders over there would use similar.I skim the top off once a fortnight, and change completely every 3 months ....smells nice too.
I will try and post details of wooden cage manufacture to help you make your own.
