I know right? i am going to save up as i know it will be quite a bit and i would need extra for the finches, but the fact that she agreed is astonishing. she wants to build a rabbit hutch for my sister's rabbits first but, i am NOT paying for that.
I am just hoping she does not change her mind!

Now that she said yes, it's time to PLAN. if you are going to build something like that I would suggest building it around a tray you can purchase for the bottom. This is one thing I did when I formed a plan for my next aviary. It's still in the works and I'm saving for it as well, but you can go see a model of it on google sketch up warehouse. I've posted it for anyone to download and use. http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/ ... revstart=0
Google sketch up is free software. You can build it in 3D all by yourself and price out all the materials you will need so you will have a real plan to show your mom. Check out a couple of YouTube videos about the software, and your off!! You can figure it out girl!! Good luck!

Re: I WANT IT I WANT IT I WANT IT!!!!!!!!!
I'm wondering now, after doing a bit of searching for screen doors, if it would be cheaper to buy wood. If i can get 2X4X8 lumber planks, would that be good building material? it is only about 2$ per 2x4x8 plank, if i need say...50 planks(for the different sizes and souch) it would come out to about 110$ is dollars more or less? but each screen door i can find is like 40$ and if i get like 8 of those plus the door it would be over 300$
which one would be best? if i DID do this?

and then what paints could i use?

Hm, tough one, you need to find a plan for the planks if yu find a working one go that way because it is cheaper. Use paints tht say child safe, but you are putting teils in their so no paint is bes, they may chew

Re: I WANT IT I WANT IT I WANT IT!!!!!!!!!
I am talking paints for the aviary that i am making for the finches. the tiels will chew on the wood so i don't know what i am going to do about that LOL but the paint is for the large flight for the finches. Once i get the tiel aviary done, i am making the finch flight and it is going to be pretty big
i would say about 4 or 5 ft long, 4 or 5 ft tall and 2 feet deep. and i am going to use all natural perches.
As for the finch paint, what colors are best for picture taking? white or black?

Pukasand, how much was it to build that? where did you get the supplies?
Dante, i will add white child safe paint to my list
I have decided that the finch aviary is going to be 4ft tall(elevated on some tables so i have some storage under the aviary) six feet long, two feet deep. that way they have a lot of long flight space instead of up flight space. the wood will be painted white and the sides will have small doors on them that lift rather then open hinge, i am going to work on figuring out how to spring load them so they are always to shut. but i would only worry about the finches getting caught in one so maybe a weak spring? i don't want it to get stuck open in case the ferrets are ever out, birds are their main prey next to rabbits
I am going to use a lot of natural perches from my lilacs, hopefully i can bleach and bake enough for their nice big small aviary(pardon the oxymoron
) i don't plan on breeding yet, but i am still going to make it to where i can install a separator in case it is ever needed.
