New to me :) 10 unit cage

So its a little more beat up than I thought. some of the bars are missing on some of the cages, and the paint is off some of the bars and flat metal........ Can I re paint it and if so what is a safe choice. the one thing I already don't like is there's no where to hang toys except on the front wire. Also there aren't any grates in the bottoms. But the birds don't seem to mind. I have them all in one whole cage now so they have 2 cups for food and 2 for water and lots of flying space back and forth. I'll try and post pics.

Also, the manufacturer is Terenziani, has anyone heard of them?

I wasn't aware that the unit was used. Was it not advertised as slightly beat-up? If so, you should have asked for a price adjustment. I'm not sure how to replace the missing bars, as I have never purchased a cage in such condition, but the painting can easily be taken care of. In terms of "safe" paint, you ideally want to look into child safe paint - either spray or water-based. Any paint safe for children and young ones should be fine. Just make sure the paint is fully dried, aerated, and no odors/fumes are apparent, as these can be harmful for our feathered friends.

In respects to the manufacturer, Terenziani, yes, they are a well reputated Italian-European company that are highly respected in the Avian world in those parts and here as well. A lot of canary breeders use Terenziani, I believe.

Yeah I thought about it. But she wasn't even there when I showed up a guy asked how much she told me and that's what I gave him. Sigh, oh well hopefully I can find some paint añd figure out a way to blck the couple places bards are missing.......

Well, it's all a learning experience. Sometimes you have to be quick on your feet and act accordingly. I have a issue with people not being honest and upfront about things. I always believe honesty is the best policy. I would have definitely asked for a price adjustment given that some of the bars were missing. I can deal with a undertaking a paint job but missing bars can mean a whole lot of work (for me, at least). If in fact she was not upfront about the condition of the set-up, you can always call/email and have your peace. Perhaps it will be a learning lesson to be honest and ethical about selling anything in the future.

i got a solder kit from harbor freight for $6.00 or $9.00 (cant remember exactly) that i used to fix one of my bars that came lose at one end, i think you can get wire at home depot that is used to hang ceiling grids on commercial jobs and solder it, just make sure you put enough so it would stay, or you can also ask what kind of wire can be solder.then get water based spray paint cans and you done

what about plexiglass for the bars missing...but I dont know how you would attach them

I have one old cage that is missing some bars but I still use it. I just bought some wire, wrapped it around the closest standing bars and "made" a new bar with the wire. I went up and down a few times. I depends on how the bars stand, so you might have to make a cross or something in order to make it work. It's softer than the normal bars since it can still bend a little, but it works good, the birds can't get out and it holds perfectly even if the birds are hanging on the wire. You could probably also buy thicker wire for this than I used.

Not sure if you can see it well here, but the wires are under the foodboxes and in the holes at front that are supposed to be for foodboxes.

Terenziani is a very well-respected cage manufacturer in Europe. Any low VOC, child-safe, water-based paint should do, whether you spray it on or use a brush. It is often worth it to get these quality cages used, they are built so much better than the cheaper new ones available today. I take out all the grills in my cages, my birds spend a lot of time foraging on the floor of the cage. Some people say the grills protect them from walking in poop, but the poop sticks to the grills and they walk in it then, so what's the difference?

Fixing the bars may be a little more difficult, but you have gotten some good suggestions already.

I agree with removing the grates if at all possible. If not then cover them with newspaper - sooo much easier to replace the newspaper as it gets dirty then to have to disturb the birds by scrubbing the grates!

PS - that's going to be a fantastic unit when you get it ready. Nice find!

I found the sizes, which are approximately 34x12x15. These would be perfect as breeding cages for one pair of birds for each cage. You could fasten the slimline undercounter lights to the top of each cage, drilling a hole in the back for the cord. A little bit of work, and you have a fantastic breeding stack!

This may not help but as a temporary fix I have seen bamboo cooking skewers threaded through in between bars to prevent spacing from being too large.

Good idea for the lights! For now until i can figure out metal for the bars. I took twisty tie and wrapped the openings. I don't have a need fpr the missing bar cages yet, but one i figure out genders i will. thanks everyone for the ideas!!
