Protection against snakes / predators

Post by henryreynolds » Thu Oct 04, 2012 9:59 am

Hi All

I live in South Africa and in my area there are quite a lot of snakes. My avairy is outside and I would like to know if there is any snake repellent or plant or some kind of home made liquid to keep snakes away from the birds.

The best protection is building a snake proof enclosure for your birds.

Stainless steel or plexi-glass plates around the bottom of the aviary will help. Keep all tall bushes away from the outside of the aviary and far enough away so they can not climb up and into the aviary. Make sure the doors do not have gaps under them that will allow one to gain entrance through.

I agree with what Cindy has said, and you should do alteast 2 feet of plexi glass around the bottom as a border, also if it is a large enclosure build on the ground, put metal plates around the bottom under the substrate/ground to prevent rats from digging in.
