Anyone have experience with A&E Double Flight Cage?

For questions about finch enclosures (cages & aviaries).

I had a "bird room" in the basement at one time with multiple aviaries. There was no door separating that room from the rest of the basement, I hung beads (from our hippy days) in the doorway and never had a bird go out the door through the beads. Good thing because I'm not sure I would have been able to ever find one if it did.

I also have the doors to the aviaries lower so that I have to duck a little bit because it was told to me many moons ago that birds will fly over your head passed you. I haven't had a bird fly passed me in the doorway yet.

debbie276 :-! LOL my friend. I meant to hang something in the BIRD CAGE doorway. LOL. But I see where bead curtains would be great in a regular HUMAN doorway too

Thanks for the input guys! Greatly appreciated! :)

I would address each one of you in regards to your replies, but I am far too tired to do anything correctly. #-o

However, the HQ Double Flight does suit my needs a lot better than the A&E brand flight. Thank you so much for the link!

The door barrier is an excellent idea, thanks for sharing! :) I was thinking bead curtains too hahaha

finchandlovebird and skyjump100, lovely cages, thanks for sharing. :)

I have the A&E double for my budgies. We blocked the slot that would hold the divider with wooden dowels, held in by zip ties or wires. Put a piece of solid plastic over the one on the bottom to make it easy to clean (solid clear plastic like from the front of toy packages). Completely fills the slots, easily removable if you want to put the divider in.

If you pull out the grate, then there is a gap at the tray, so when cleaning you might want to block it with a paper towel or something until you slide the grate back in. Note that if you pull out the grate and the tray at the same time, there is no bottom to the cage, so don't pull both at once.

The doors are big, we hang a towel or bandanna across the opening by clipping it up to the bars with binder clips so that it blocks the doorway, then just reach in under/alongside the towel to work on things. I do like the idea of a bead curtain, it could be left in place, and would be less likely to develop a bigger gap like a towel or bandanna does if you don't keep watch and keep pulling it back down around your arm.

I love my big cage. Wish I had space to get one for my finches, too.

I got mine through what is now Wayfair.com (was pets by csn before). The go on sale at various sites for as low as $249 with free shipping. Just search for it by name, and keep scanning sites, you should most definitely be able to get it for less than $300, with free shipping, or cage and shipping total.

You could always use smaller beads and make your own strings for in a cage doorway =))
