Putting a shelf on top of cage?

What about rebuilding the base for your new cage (or basically building a new stand for it) and putting the Cham below it?

I have been eyeing some heavy duty shelving at Home Depot for a while, make that the stands for my bigger cages by setting it up double wide instead of tall, then build the guinea pigs a new place in the bottom, lots of room to run and then everybody in one place. Stored supplies could then go into a cabinet in some dark unappealing corner somewhere.

Well, we decided on just doing 2/3 of cage top. That way we can hang the light with full spectrum lighting and it still get to them.

He is getting it on way home today so I can paint with non-toxic paint and then let it air dry and air out for a few days before we assemble cage!!
