Can you use heat lamps for finches?

Post by societyspice » Mon Oct 27, 2008 7:54 pm

With winter approaching (and currently with one of my gouldians moulting), I was thinking of getting a heat lamp for my flight cage. My cage is indoors and my apartment is usually in the 70's. I have some questions:

1. Do you think a heat lamp is necessary since my birds are indoors?

2. Should I get both a day heat lamp and a night heat lamp?

3. My highest perch is approximately 8-10 inches from the top of the cage (where the heat lamp would be.) Is this a safe distance for my birds. (They would be able to fly away from this perch, of course...)

Thanks in advance for your help/suggestions. :D

I only use a heatlamp for when they are not feeling well or babies moulting heavily.

I misread your post I thought you had your bids outside, I to don't think you need the heat emitter would probably be to much heat
