Will I upset them if I move them?
Heya.
As most of you know I have a new 2nd aviary.
My gouldians have babies as do my Orange breasts, I think they are about 8 - 10 days old. Mum and dad gouldian have both started to come out of the nest for brief periods of time but always go back.
I need to move some of the birds in aviary 1 into aviary 2.
If I do this while there are babies in the nest will I upset them and risk them abandoning the nest? I have a friend doing it and he is very quick and confident unlike me who is a nervous wreck and hopeless at catching them.
Should I wait longer or will it be OK to do it now?

Personally I would wait to young have fledged due to there is always a chance they may abandon the nests. If your not confident then I would leave the choice to you.

I'm sure you know your birds best but if it was me I'd wait, why take a chance.

Thanks lovely people
I will wait, now I think about it I am not sure why I even contemplated it. Those Gouldian babies are way too precious. As are the orange breasts (if I have any?)

Re: Will I upset them if I move them?
You've already decided, but I too would wait. I waited until dark the other night to move two pairs of gouldians I was setting up for breeding. Three of them just sat on their perch as I grabbed them (in the dark) and placed them in their new breeding cages (minus the BB male who chewed on my hand the whole way to his cage, and then wouldn't let go). The fourth bird dfYB male flew straight into the Owl nest when my hand went around him. I just wanted to scream because they are on eggs and I mean really, what were the odds of that. He popped back out though and they are still incubating, but I wouldn't do it again. That's why I waited until it was dark to not scare the Owls or Stars on eggs.

Colt Sounds like an adventure !! I will wait until they fledge. I was just excited as I have the new aviary and wanted to shift birds around but it can sit empty until the time is right. Thanks for your advice. I hope all goes well for yours.
