Brainstorming
I want to make a better bird bath for my flight cage that will retain most of the water inside, rather than having it all splashing out onto the bottom and sides of my cage and my floor, making a mess and leading to rust/flaking paint issues. I know you can buy birdbaths that attach to the cage through an open door, but they do not fit my cage and I don't really like the looks of them. I have several of the lexit (or lixit?) round clear plastic baths and have wondered how it would work to use one, attached to the side of the cage on the little stand it comes on, saw the base off the other one leaving just the round dish part, roll a strip of some sturdy clear flexible material (like a thick acetate sheet) cut about 5" tall by the circumference of the dish (minus about 2" for a "door") inside the edge of the bottom dish and then invert the other dish (with the base cut off) on top of the plastic strip. In theory, this would make a round "shower" that was clear and using the baths my birds already have and are accustomed to. It would all come apart easily for cleaning too. Can anyone offer a better idea or critique this one?
