Prevue F040
Ok, this is probably my choice, so, Prevue F040 with that in mind, and the dimensions it has. Cage 47x36x22, how many pairs do you think I could comfortably do in this? The calculations are a bit askew on the calculator because although usually height is not a factor wen calculating, this is the largest measurement in this cage. I am ballpark-ing maybe 3 pair max? 6 finches. Does this sound about right?

Re: Wanting to expand
It pretty much depends on what species of finch you will get, with three pairs of zebras you won't have a problem but if you take whydahs you will have a problem, I would suggest two or three pairs of the australian grassfinches like starfinches, cherryfinches etc.
I don't know if you plan to breed them, because that is a factor when you are choosing how many finches and what species you get.

Re: Wanting to expand
I already have 2 lady Gouldins, males. I will not breed any of them, just ornamental purposes. So which ever I do get I know will have to be on the passive side. I will look at the compatibility chart.
Also, New Jersey bird hobbyists, is there anywhere you know of I can buy then and there a cage of this size locally vs. online? I know Woodbridge " had" Animals and Things, who I have been going to for years for some pet supplies, they have recently gone out of business. Local pet stores do not carry these types of cages in store, does an done in New Jersey know of a store I can go to? Or am I better off just ordering online?
Thank you! Getting excited!
Ps.. Just checked the compatibility chart, it says zebras are pushy, but with a cage of this size " could" I out them with the Gouldins or would that not be advise able? I have read and heard some have made it work, didn't know if they just lucked out.

Re: Wanting to expand
I've had zebras with all kinds of birds and they only seem aggressive to species that are smaller than themselves waxbills, because gouldians are bigger than zebras they won't mess with them very much. If you plan to have 1 pairs of zebra's with you gouldians you won't have a problem, maybe a little bit of quarrelling by the food but that's about the maximum of 'fights' you will get. Even my strawberries and helena's have a quarrel now and then, but that's just the making of the pecking order, or protecting territory. while my weavers don't do anything to any other bird in the aviary, so i think the compatibility chart isn't perfect but overall it's good to use.
